K29: A Striking Combination of Steel and Wood

A Unique Folding Knife Design by Ridzert Ingenegeren

To make the product stand out in the product category, a combination of materials and form language was used that was not available on the market yet. Through the creation of multiple prototypes by the manufacturer, as well as adjustments based on testing these prototypes, it was made sure that the knife was ergonomically and visually optimized.

A striking pocket knife design in which steel is combined with wood, the K29 folding knife is a true testament to the art of craftsmanship. Designed by Ridzert Ingenegeren, this innovative piece features a range of unique properties that set it apart from other knives in its class.

The K29 folding knife boasts a dynamic and eye-catching design, with its sleek lines and curves making it a standout piece. It comes equipped with a range of functional features, including a glass breaker, belt cutter, lanyard hole, and belt clip, making it a versatile tool for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.

Available in two editions, the 'Titanium' edition showcases a sophisticated grey color with olive wood accents, while the 'Tiger' edition exudes a bold black color with bocote wood. The natural qualities of the wood are preserved, with no additional color used on the material, allowing its original appearance to shine through.

The K29 folding knife is meticulously crafted using a layering technique. The handle consists of outside layers that provide volume, ensuring a safe and secure grip. These outside layers are connected to the liners of the handle, to which the wooden parts are attached. Hex screws hold everything together securely, allowing for easy replacement of parts if needed.

Measuring 21 cm when unfolded and 12.1 cm when folded, the K29 folding knife is compact and convenient to carry. Its Linerlock mechanism ensures that the blade is securely locked when opened, providing peace of mind during use.

Designed to be operated with ease, the K29 folding knife can be opened using the flipper and/or thumb stud. Folding the knife back is a simple process, requiring the user to press the lock bar to the side before folding it shut. It is important to note that the use and carry of this type of knife may be prohibited in certain countries and regions, so it is essential to consult local laws before purchasing or using the product.

The design process for the K29 folding knife began in September 2018 in Berlin, with the first version of the product launching in April 2019 in Germany. It subsequently made its way to Italy, Spain, and France in the following months. Throughout the design process, extensive market research was conducted to determine the type of product to develop, and user testing played a crucial role in decision-making.

Despite its seemingly seamless design, the K29 folding knife presented a unique challenge during its creation. The selection of the right screws proved to be a significant hurdle, as they needed to be suitable for use in the entire Bergkvist knife collection, readily available, and easy to remove and attach. Through meticulous research and testing, the perfect screws were found, ensuring the integrity and functionality of the design.

The K29 folding knife has garnered recognition for its exceptional design. It was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in the Hardware, Power, and Hand Tools Design category in 2021. This prestigious award celebrates designs that demonstrate creativity, resourcefulness, and technical excellence, contributing to improvements in quality of life.

With its striking combination of steel and wood, the K29 folding knife by Ridzert Ingenegeren is a true testament to the art of design and craftsmanship. Its unique features, meticulous construction, and functional design make it a standout choice for outdoor enthusiasts and adventurers.
